throwback to the 90s with Not Enough and Moment of Collapse records..

last few weeks I feel like punk archeologist.. digging through the depths of internet in search of some crust punk artefacts.. and well, the search was more than successful.. and the best thing and the truth is that I was having complete luck more than really searching and found those stuff more or less accidentally.. two packages arrived at the same day, one from Germany and the other from far away Sweden and both made me extremely happy.. it was long, long time ago that I waited mailman so impatiently like these days..

and yes, you can call me nostalgic bastard or say what you want but bands were better back then and whole thing about hc punk was more sincere and passionate.. that's the fact..

okay, let's see what I found..

HUMANITAR / WASSERDICHT - split LP 

this one on total unexpected place while I was actually searching it for a stream on bandcamp or youtube.. from Moment of Collapse records catalogue for again unexpected 5 euros.. awesome.. never heard of this label before and when I checked the rest of releases they hold didn't find anything interesting for me.. but I'm glad I found this one..

split Lp of two similar hc crust punk bands, Humanitar from Germany and Wasserdicht from Slovenia.. one of the last and the best Wasserdicht's recordings here from 2001.. anyhow, great and legendary record with almost 40 mins of music..

well, that was first find.. and the other, hey what a treasure.. story goes something like this.. crew from awesome Not Enough records (which are celebrating 20th years anniversary these days, btw) decided to buy old Dist and Confuzed distro which was collecting dust somewhere for almost 10 years.. and as you can guess it was hiding a lot of real treasures and already unavailable and pretty rare stuff.. a lot of awesome LPs which I didn't take into consideration because I would go bankrupt, then a bunch of CDs which I don't like as a medium so I skipped even to look for them because I would find something I couldn't resist and then incredible 340, yes you read this right, 340 different 7" titles and I simply couldn't resist to treat myself with some.. and the best thing, as a lot of those are probably unavailable anywhere else they could put all kind of insane prices but they offer it all for more than decent 40 SEK which is around 3.80 €..

WASSERDICHT / KONSTRUKT - split

another one legendary Wasserdicht split, this time with mighty Austrian crust grind band Konstrukt.. released on Slovenian label Jay Walk in 1996..

it comes with really nice folded sleeve with lyrics.. one of those records for which I was sure I won't be able to find anywhere and to own it some day..

TOLSHOCK - The Heritage of Violence / Spikes and Studs...

two EPs of to me one of the best crust bands from Sweden from 90s era, and maybe one of the best in general, actually.. great looking sleeves with lyrics and with classic, for the genre, style and cover art.. 

DECREPIT / SCATHED - split

and probably the best piece of vinyl, musically, of all at here is this one.. split of two bands from Seattle, USA.. amazing Decrepit, one of the best bands ever to me, unbelievably energetic and explosive crustcore grind in veins of Disrupt but even better.. don't believe me? - just try it..

and on other side Scathed to whom I am not really familiar, knew them just because of this split but they are also great hardcore punk crust band, something darker an slower than Decrepit but I will sure look for other stuff of them if I find any..

and this one is definitely the most beautiful, with great artwork on front as well on the back side, especially Scathed part.. also stickers from both bands are included..

DOG ON A ROPE / SANCTUS IUDA - split

I buy this because of S. Iuda but Dog on a Rope are also legendary and well known, maybe even better then Polish, punk band from England.. very politically engaged little split EP with two songs from both sides.. released in faraway 1997 by two Polish labels..

CONTRAVENE / SVART AGGRESSION - split

one more short political attack with two similar bands, this time in more anarcho peace punk style.. USA/Sweden collaboration..

UNDONE - The Other Side

about my love towards this band I already wrote something more HERE and they were sure one of those bands for which I was pretty sure that I won't be able to get my hands and ears dirty on some of their physical records.. emotional hardcore/screamo at it's best.. of course with standard for the genre lyrics, dealing with social problematics, relations between people, etc. but they were also known for political and diy ethics.. this EP was released by Stonehenge Records in 1996 which was their drummers label and I believe it was their last record.. really nice black cover on recycled paper and sleeve style is like mini fanzine with columns (about what music means to the each of band members, about scene and similar stuff) and lyrics, both on French and English..

ARGUE DAMNATION / BOYCOT - split

and for the end the biggest gem of all, basically the reason why I made this order, awesome split by two great bands, released in 1997 by Japanese label F.F.T. in which was, at least I think, Argue Damnation vocalist involved in.. he also stand behind recognizable chaotic artwork which follow almost all A. Damnation records and maybe some more Japanese bands..

Argue Damnation were anarcho crusty raw punk band from Kobe/Osaka, Japan and Boycot were well known politically hc punk from Alkmaar, Netherlands.. one of the most special records to me which I own in surprisingly good shape considering of age and non-standard sleeve which is little oversized than usual 7" wraps and is made from thin recycled paper..

there was a ton of other amazing 7" at Not Enough webshop which grab my attention, a lot of them were already in my "shopping cart" like some Warpath split, comp. EP with Argue Damnation and few more Japanese bands, Urine Specimen, System Shit, Health Hazard, two of Project Hopeless, Burek Death Squat/Patareni split, Prosecution 99 and many, many more, but total weight of package would be over 1kg and postage will unfortunately be double, some crazy amount of cash, almost more expensive as records itself so it wasn't had much sense.. some of those are still available so hurry up, because each comes in one or two pieces only, and grab some real jewels.. the best thing, new items are still coming every day..

WASSERDICHT - Prihajamo V Miru - new album is out now!!!

yes, new album by hardcore crust veterans Wasserdicht from Ormož is finally out on PDV Records and God Bless This Mess Records, my copy is already here at CF headquarters and from today is available at bandcamp as well.. 

even 16 new songs in true old school hardcore punk style with crusty vocals recorded in April last year in well known studio Depth in Zagreb, pressed on black vinyl with for me totally unexpected looking cover art for which is responsible artist under the name Punkerstein and with lyrics on Slovenian as always, from which some might be controversial as this was often the case with them in the past also.. as both labels are not strictly just into diy hc punk so the price of the vinyl is maybe something higher, 23€, in pre-order period it was 20€, but fck it, we live only once and I have too many nice memories with Wasserdicht to miss this one out.. if you can't or don't want afford it still you can check it on the link bellow, because still, it is good old Wasserdicht..

WASSERDICHT / KPAX! / KORIDOR / NUCLEAR ALTAR 09.03.2024., Prostor, Čakovec

so...where to start?.. I already forgot how to write gig reports, same as I forgot how is to attend some.. if I remember and counting well, I wasn't on any gig in last 3 years.. the last one was I think Mališa Bahat in Varaždin still during covid restrictions and wearing masks on a gig was a thing.. yes, I know, I betray punk and all that, haha, but fck it, punk also betrayed me and fckd me up plenty of times but still I'm coming back to it again and again like to some bloody addiction which I can't rid of..

I must admit that in last year or two there were some (probably) awesome gigs and maybe once in a lifetime opportunities that I will never forgive myself for missing them, like for example Warkrusher in Rijeka, Savageheads in Zagreb, Ego and Hiatus at Monteparadiso festival, well and Misery in Pittsburg together with Nightfeeder and Flower, to be completely honest, hahaha but then I heard about one gig that will happen in one special to me city and with special bands and I knew that I can't miss this.. you think this one in Čakovec!? - no, no, it's a little more complicated, I mean the one that took place in Požega a week or two ago when there were Wasserdicht and Nuclear Altar playing.. I really wanted and already planned to go there...but again, in last moment...I fckng miss it, hahaha.. but then story goes something like this: I saw announcement about gig in Čakovec again with Wasserdicht and this time with Koridor and Kpax! and thought finally some quality and good punk concert in my closest surroundings.. I really don't remember when there was some gig in Čakovec, Novi Marof or Varaždin with some good and by my taste hc punk or crust bands, I don't count uninteresting and irrelevant metal/post something/big punk-rock bands, I like my punk d.i.y., leaning towards hardcore or crust, if possible dark, and with at least traces of message and engagement.. the last one I can think of was also in Čakovec when U.B.T. and Sukob were playing among others and this gig was also organized by the same crew as this now if I remember well but you can already guess - I fckng miss it.. anyhow, still sad and mad at myself because I miss the one in Požega I come to brilliant idea - because Mata (also guitarist in Nuclear Altar) is playing with Koridor and will already be there, it would be great if the rest of Nuclear Altar can also come and play on this gig and make one more show together with old friends from Wasserdicht, so I contacted Kktz and organizers of gig, they both love the idea and viola, my evil plan succeeded - Nuclear Altar fell in as a last minute surprise band!.. I menage to get a free day at work and that was it..

as everything of this happen in short time the day of the gig comes fast, I didn't hear with anyone or talk to much with anybody about it and at the end I go there alone but already was having some picture who might show up on this considering the bands that will play and I was right - I met there some old crew and friends, with Nuclear Altar came familiar support from Požega, crew which is always ready for partying, with Koridor few people from Zagreb and of course some familiar faces from Čakovec, Novi Marof and Varaždin which also I didn't see for ages so it was nice to hang out a little.. there was not too much people, I kind of expected that there could be a way more folks, but considering that the same day there were gigs in Zagreb and Varaždin attendance was understandable and maybe even better this way because atmosphere was very friendly and positive because almost everyone knew each other and from the beginning it was clear that this will be one relaxed and fun gig, you know that kind of a gig when every band wants to play first so they can have fun after and drink more, haha, so in that tone was a timetable also, in maybe a little unexpected, more like reversed order, so Wasserdicht were playing first.. 

they are hc punk/crust dinosaurs from neighboring Ormož, active back from 1990 with some shorter or longer pauses, they returned recently in old, first line up as a trio with already decent number of gigs all around this our area from Kranj to Beograd and with brand new album which is ready for pre-orders and will be out on the vinyl very soon.. their set was perfect combo of old and new songs, they played my favorite ones Med Tem Ko Moliš and Moja Prepričanja as well and it was really awesome to watch them again.. I still remember their last reunion around 2013 when me and friend released their discography tape on our label and they played few awesome shows, including the one with GBH snd Extreme Noise Terror on which they were the best band, just to mention..  they were always known as hell of party animals, I remember few gigs from Čakovec or Varaždin, not really sure from the early 2000 when they even wasn't able to play at the end and still today they are for sure fun to watch.. this time they also outdid themselves, in one moment bassist has to go in toilets hahaha (I think I never seen situation like this ever before) so that kind of interrupted good energy and flow of their performance, but after he came back they finished gig in style and without further problems.. around 40-45 minutes set by them, they did it uncompromising and with fire, Mitja at drums and in some songs on vocals is still animal despite his age..

after short pause guests from Belgrade Kpax! took the stage, they are very positive and friendly crew active around Belgrade's diy space AKAB Okretnica, they are not really kind of the band I would listen at home everyday, as I'm familiar they were always compared to those nowadays popular French oi punk bands which I have no idea what they sound like and never get interested to check them, but I was aware of them, and give them a listen few times on bandcamp but never get really hooked, but live is another story, they are great and fun to watch.. they play this mid tempo, sometimes too slow for my taste hc punk, but in this anthemic style with a lot of oo-oooo-oo backing vocals and for sure it was nice to see and listen something like this for a change.. they spread some positive messages in between of songs and that's always welcome.. also the song "Granica Nema" was the best one to me (even though they have one witch actually is named "Najbolja" or the best one OE, but it wasn't, obviously) and is perfect sing-along hit for gigs with great message and meaning and during this song atmosphere among crew kind of explode and was wild until the end of their show..

after them something longer pause when Koridor set up their gear.. there was some discussion in between crowd about sound, allegedly drums were too silent and bass to loud, I didn't notice that but if it was so, right after Koridor started sound was perfect.. usually, when I hear that some band plays post-something I already get repulsion and it's instant turn off for me, but I already mentioned here on blog that Koridor is one of those rare actually good post punk bands and I respected them and follow their work from beginnings.. their post punk is dark, kind of depressive and very nervous and in the same time so highly energetic live that this is hard to describe.. music is maybe similar to something what Berlin based Ego plays nowadays but even more explosive, angry and I don't know what.. sound and way of playing drums and bass is special while guitars are also wild and on point.. they literally destroyed the place and also was really fun to watch.. song "Kroz Pukotine" is living fire and was the best to me.. and during one song which is kind of more melodic and slower (maybe it was Ruševine, I'm not sure) in one moment I thought that I'm watching Joy Division playing dark version of hardcore punk, they are incredibly charismatic band and have this strong certain vibe and appearance on the stage, no wonder they even already toured USA recently.. they are sure great discovery for me, because on the records they were just you know, a good band from which I would check out every new record and after some time forgot about them, but live...I want to watch them again soon as possible..

and for the end, the ones I came for, old friends from Požega, Nuclear Altar, dark punk crust band with whom I am somehow connected to from their beginnings, either with friendship, attending their gigs since forever or even releasing their tapes.. same as during Koridor, sound was perfect and loud, they also make their set as a blend of old and new stuff, reinforced with 4 awesome covers, Corporate Wasteland (Fight Back), Victims Of Progress (Dislike), Ne Želim (the best anti-war song in history of domestic hc punk scene by Bratska Pomoć/Dislike) and already indispensable Pank Pankerima (Disčerge/Fight Back).. they probably had the wildest atmosphere at the end, I don't know if it was because they were last one on the stage or because they bring their local support, but most likely they just were really that good.. one of the best parts was during End Of Illusion when after this slower intro/beginning Kktz shouted from depths of hell (but for real, I never heard him like this) endddd offff illusionnnnnnnn the whole place freeze from the shock and right when song was supposed to start in faster tempo after this shout, cable from Mata's guitar unplugged and fell out, and an awkward silence ensued, hahah so that's was little funny and they had to repeat song from the beginning..

they also had something longer set, same as other bands this evening which was nice and strange for them because of their relatively short songs.. it's obvious that they make decent amount of new ones so they now have material for proper gig.. for the end they repeated Victims Of Progress once again with Smole from Dislike on vocals in real chaos crust style and end up this gig in the best way possible..

after the gig some more standard hanging out, discussions and settling of impressions about the gig, some overall conclusion was that this was really one hell of an event, like some mini fest with two bands from abroad, with audience from different cities and quality and friendly atmosphere and hanging out.. shortly after I went home because I was already tired, I was working night shift the day before, didn't have enough of sleep and wasn't in mood for the afterparty, but at the same time full of impressions and energy from the great gig and meeting some old friends.. so now I can crawl back into my cave for another 3 years or so...just kidding, I hope there will be some similar event soon somewhere and see you all there..

ohoho, some super exciting news!!.. Wasserdicht, legendary Slovenian crust core band born in 1990 is, as it seems, back on track, again, in no more and no less than original first line up (does that means with Petra on vocals, hmm!?.. or probably not..) and they even have new material..

new album is in plan as well and I can't describe how I'm happy because of that and looking forward to hear it and possibly have it if they release it in some physical form..

and that's not all, as 33th birthday of club Unterhund in Ormož (hometown of Wasserdicht) is approaching, in April they will play there together with anarcho-punk legends Nula and that will sure be one hell of a party!..

hey, what a gig!.. two bands, old friends from Ormož and Požega, with "dangerous" crew which had significant role in 90s and early 00s diy punk scene here at ex-yu area and even wider, as a matter of fact they still have, not only with their bands but also with all sort of other activity and engagement.. Wasserdicht are definitely back with old line up, this time with something "cleaner" sound than in their chaotic early years but still angry, fast, uncompromising and without unnecessary complications or following trends and Nuclear Altar are one of the rare which are still keeping alive this old Požega's specific sound and diy spirit.. I'm sure this will be one hell of a fun, so support it if you can..

I already mentioned somewhere that Wasserdicht are back with few live shows and are preparing new album, and now they offer us a little teaser, 4 songs for the full length "Prihajamo V Miru".. recorded in old line up from 1995 in studio Depth in Zagreb, during April this year.. for now, from this 4, my favorite song is "Sit Sem Vas", hope the rest will be more similar to this one.. can't wait for this to be out!.. until then, for warming up, check it out on bc or yt.

UGLY FUCKS serbian tour 2013

hardcore/punk band Ugly Fucks (members were/are in  bands such as Vaseline Children, The Pathetics, Evazija, I Hope You Suffer, Equal, Junk Messiah...) from Zagreb, Croatia will tour Serbia from May 2nd to May 5th.. you can see them in next cities:

MENTALNA SMRT #3 ZINE IS OUT NOW!!!

Dakle, novi broj je ugledao svjetlo dana (i tamu noći), ovaj put u rekordnom roku od samo 8 mjeseci nakon prošlog broja.. sadržajno nastavljamo u istom tonu, dakle sve manje-više isto kao i do sad.. intervjui su ovaj put sa američkim hardcore bendom Full of Hell i sa aktivisticom iz Klaonice skvota u Zagrebu.. osim intervjua standardno prevladavaju izvještaji sa koncerata (Instinct of Survival, Agathocles, Wasserdicht, Nonsense, Full of Hell, Bruerija, Left in Ruins, D-Clone, Doom, Iskra i mnogi drugi..) i festivala Obscene Extreme i Enemy of the Sun, znači i ovaj put smo osim domačih rupa gdje se održavaju svirke posjetili i one u Italiji, Sloveniji, Austriji i Češkoj.. za kraj je još ostalo par kolumni te recenzije muzičkih izdanja, ali ovaj put i nekoliko fanzina.. sve to na točno 60 stranica A5 formata..

Kako je već ustaljena praksa da uz svaki broj fanzina ide i neko kazetno izdanje pa smo ovaj put izdali Wasserdicht – Iluzija Svobode (1990-2013) kazetu koja je svojevrsna diskografija jer se sastoji od svih snimaka snimljenih tijekom 23 godine trajanja ovog slovenskog benda, kako onih objavljenih na prijašnjim izdanjima i različitim kompilacijama tako i nekih dosada neobjavljivanih.. sve zajedno 51 stvar i 90 minuta muzike.. uz kazetu ide i list sa tekstovima, a tiraž je 100 komada..

Novost u odnosu na prošle brojeve je da sada komplet fanzin + kazeta košta 15 kn iliti 2 eura, a cijena je takva samo zbog pokrivanja troškova koje imamo oko kazeta, a koje smo ovaj put platili sami iz svojih ionako napola praznih đepova.. naravno ako neko poželi samo fanzin može ga dobiti besplatno..

P.S. - fanzin i kazeta su zapravo bili gotovi prije 3 mjeseca, ali smo u Sloveniji na koncertu prodali svih 45 kompleta iz prve serije, a zbog nekih tehničkih problema oko nabave praznih kazeta nastavljamo dalje tek sada..

oh shit.. after yesterday's post and an awesome video, I found those little (or big actually) pieces of treasure.. I don't know if I can handle it anymore but pleeeeease keep it coming.. and yes, now I'm sure that I was born at least 5-10 years too late..
message to all today's trendy hc punk and crust bands (which I listen to, btw, but when I see and hear something like those shootings, then, well...) watch and listen this and try to learn something..
I am little ashamed but don't know anything, like who recorded this or something, nor I ever heard before about this videozine so if anybody have some more info fell free to leave a comment.. in short, it consists of live footage of bands shows that were playing mostly at some legendary places in Slovenia but there are also few from Germany, Czech R. and Croatia.. there are also short interviews with those bands inserted between the songs.. but just look how awesome bands are represented here, I can't believe!!..
take some 4 and half hours, grab some drinks, make yourself comfortable, play those videos and enjoy!.. I didn't sleep last night because I was watching this but it was worth it..

SANCTUS IUDA reunion 2018

well, well... look at this one.. in the time when all those reunions of an old bands are already starting to look a little funny and in some cases you gotta ask yourself if all that have any sense and what the hell is actually all that about, is it just some trend, desperate try to earn a few bucks on gigs, merch and few new/reissued records counting on the old "glory" or they just want to show to younger bands how this was doing back then.. well, I'll left that on the consideration to hc punk philosophers, anyways I am always trying to convince myself that they just love to do what they do, maybe they want to experience all that today when equipment, studios, labels and all other stuff are more available and affordable as it was the case back then..
to be honest, in the sea (not only sea but ocean, hehe) of all that reunited bands I didn't care something special for most of them, except for Doom for example (well also for Wasserdicht, Nonsense, Pizda Materna, Hoču?Neću!, Fight Back, Totalni Promašaj and Hellback, but you don't know them, do you?!..) but few days ago when I found out that Sanctus Iuda will make reunion for few shows I've got pretty intrigued and I'm really looking forward to see/hear how it will looks and sound like.. they are, to me, definitely one of the dearest east-european bands and it will sure be interesting..

according to Sanctus Propaganda, great fresh webzine running by one of the members of SI which exist just few months if I got this well, they will play 3 gigs and that will be:

-161 FEST, 17 March, Warsaw along with some well-known Polish bands, incl. HERIDA PROFUNDA, EYE FOR AN EYE and more.

-ULTRA CHAOS PIKNIK, 29 June – July, incl. DOOM, BOOZE&GLORY, LA FRACTION and many more

-DIY HARDCORE PUNK FEST, 13-15 July, Gdynia, incl. THE RESTARTS, ACIDEZ, VISIONS OF WAR, MAKABERT FYND, CRUTCHES and many more.

also there is a plan to release two records with some old but remastered recordings: 

“Disco” 2LP/2CD on NIKT NIC NIE WIE to include all split EPs (with SARCASM, SHARPEVILLE, REGENERACION, DOG ON A ROPE), ABC tape, all covers recorded by the band, the techno/rave remix of the first LP done my Brillo from SARCASM and the demo for the never released 2nd LP. The CD version will also include the first Lp of the band, called Rząd-Korporacje-/wy/zysk.

“Requiem for Kawakami” 12” split with DISCLOSE on Czarny Kot Rec. SANCTUS IUDA delivers 6 tracks recorded live in Rostock, JAZ, 1997. DISCLOSE play 9 songs recorded in their rehearsal room in 1998. The release commemorates the beer trade between Kawakami from DISCLOSE and Wojtek from SANCTUS IUDA.

both records will apparently be available in March/April 2018..

there is an interesting story about the split with Disclose, as Wojtek of SI said:
"In 2014 an old Disclose DAT master tape in a garage. Kawakami sent him this tape in 1998 for a split release with a Polish band of Michal’s choice, that never happened. Michał instantly reminds himself a story I once told him how Kawakami and I used to trade beer by post (once we got fed up with trading records, of course), and he thought that it would be most appropriate to commemorate this higly illegal procedure of smuggling local beer by releasing a split 12”EP with SANCTUS IUDA. So here we go, expect “Requiem for Kawakami” soon. DISCLOSE delivers 9 tracks recorded in a reh room in 1997, and SANCTUS IUDA plays live from Rostock (Jaz Squat) 1997. Both recordings were remastered in Riot Studio. The cover shows the very first beer I got from Kawakami back in the days and I am sure he would approve of this idea. The record will be available at the SANCTUS IUDA reunion gigs, maybe post. Copies will go fast so make sure it’s on your radar. Pre-orders will get you a wee surprise as well. anyhow, I'm really looking forward to all of that and I'm starting to ask for some vacation days on my work to visit Diy Hardcore Punk fest in Gdynia, heheh..
