DISTURD - Vision - 10" LP is out now!!

new record by Japanese crust champions Disturd is out on Black Water Records in US on 10" vinyl and as CD on Grind Bird Records from Japan which is actually run by band members and somewhere I saw, but don't remember where that tape version is also available..

despite their 20 something years long existence I have feeling that they are not so known band, at least to me, I must admit that I discovered them just recently but I was instantly blown away with their absolutely insane crust power and they are climbing at huge speed towards the top of my favorite Japanese crust bands.. 

"Vision" is their new mini album which offers 6 songs, like mix of old and new ones, probably just to confuse us even more because they are one of those bands whose discography is pretty hard to track and follow, recorded just before their appearance on this year Varning From Montreal festival which had beyond amazing line up.. even if this album isn't still available on the internet for streaming, if it's to judge by one of their latest releases, split EP with 惡AI意 we can expect nothing less than explosive dose of ripper crust heavy influenced with Antisect, Hellbastard and S.D.S. with little touch of Amebix's mystery and darkness, all delivered with intense power in the manners of US crust core bands.. 

you can get it for15-20$, depend if you want limited or regular black version from Black Water Records and here in Europe I saw few copies are available on Insane Society and Phobia Records, both from Czech.. mine is on the way and I can't wait to hear it!..

NUCLEAR ALTAR - Golet - new album is out now!!

finally new Nuclear Altar!.. the last keepers of this original Požega crust flame which was incredibly strong and developed for a such small city during its golden era in 90s and early 00s and even later in 2010s with appearance of bands like Propast, Masakrist and Nuclear Altar or reforming of Nonsense, Fight Back and Hellback, etc..

a month ago when I heard that they are in studio and preparing new material I was excited and impatient but at the same time also little worried about how it will sound considering on latest line up change when they added second guitarist and the fact that they are in studio again first time after their debut proper record "Blessed Ruins", while all others releases were recorded in heavy d.i.y. style in their rehearsal room or captured live and you can like it or not but the important part and kind of trademark of this above mentioned Požega's crust sound and authenticity were exactly those thrashy d.i.y. recordings..

if you are familiar with Nuclear Altar's history and have followed their development as a band you know that they are like some old beast which is struggling in this ugly reality of Slavonian devastated wasteland and just refuse to give up and die.. they arise again and again after every lost battle and with every line up change they become stronger, lyrically darker and darker like they are tired from this nightmare called life but musically they take everything they can alongside the road of destruction and from simple and classic d-beat hardcore band they become this monster they are nowadays in their 5th stage of 14-years existence, if I count that well.. actually only the vocalist/bassist and drummer are original members, even the drummer has some pause during one period..

but now new album named "Golet" (not so common word in Croatian which means something like barren wasteland) comes like perfect reward for persistence and not giving up through all these years.. it consists from all together 11 (mostly) new songs of brutal and dark crusty d-beat driven hardcore punk, ugly and sincere, luckily not too polished in studio, they had this tendency that the whole thing sounds as similar as possible they sound live and that’s always praiseworthy here at crucified freedom hq.. I must admit, on the first few listens it was hard to adjust on new additional guitar sound and production but now after some 96 hours of continuous listening things sets in place and it all started to have perfect sense..  

biggest news here and differences from previous releases are: first, that songs are not all the same, still few of them are classic short d-beat attacks, in some they added more punkish feel in riffs which came as natural influence from a new guitarist who isn’t originally from crust/metal waters but more from punk-rock spectrum of the underground universe, while on the other side some are more lengthy and differently build and structured, even with some melodies in traces.. for songs like "Golet", "Zvijer", "Svete Ruševine" (actually old "Blessed Ruins" with different lyrics and slightly changed) and "Ustanak" we can say that they are classic Nuclear Altar stuff, "Grafit" and "Nepodoban" have great, simple but deep lyrics and fckd up message while "Pakao" is story for itself with unusual length of 4 and half minutes and absolutely brilliant beginning and hellish atmosphere.. those listed songs I would point out as the best to me but the rest is great also, there's this feel that the whole album has a story, it's almost conceptual and not a single song is excessive, there's absolutely no any fillers here..

and second thing, lyrics of all new songs are now on Croatian and are darker than deepest parts of hell, written in this "epic" poetic tone full of blackness and hopelessness.. and from those things is clear that Nuclear Altar now on these recordings sounds even more authentic and original.. 

album finishes just as it should with 2 old songs as a tribute to the roots of local d.i.y. crust sound and one scene which is slowly disappearing but still fighting like demon of some past, almost forgotten times.. album art is just the final touch on the whole story, it's made in already recognizable Kktz's dark and minimalistic style, it completes the whole thing in apocalyptic tone and fits to the sound of this record perfectly..

it's incredibly hard to classify in which genre Nuclear Altar fits entirely so I won't even try, but if you are looking for your new favorite d-beat hardcore crust punk band essentially influenced with early hardcore punk ugliness from the 80s by acts like Anti Cimex or Doom inspired crust punk wave of 90s, all executed in U.B.R.'s harsh hardcore rawness but with something different and more authentic approach inspired by nothingness and cruelty of the present times, then this is for you!.. 

for now album is available only in digital form and can be found on bc and yt, but there will hopefully be some tapes released in the future.. 

anyhow, Golet is here and it takes no prisoners, so be aware!..

FLOWER demos

well, I'll be damned but I'm today years old when I found out that NYC's crust gods Flower had demos or any recordings before debut LP "Hardly a Dream".. yes, I know, I'm a fool it's not likely band's first record will come out on Profane straight out of nowhere but I didn't think about that and never heard or remember to look for some eventual demo recordings.. now after few years of enjoying and following all the stuff related to Flower imagine my surprise when I discover those early recordings of which I was completely unaware.. and I'm so glad I stumbled upon them because they are great and it's nice to see how this band was growing and at the end developed in this absolute unit of anarcho crust punk they are nowadays..

    

  

first one I found on youtube and this was their self titled cassette from 2018 with 4 songs in great anarcho-punk sound with simple and raw production, according to discogs it was released via Ukrainian label Voice From Inside.. 

while I was already there, I found another one called "Violent Crusades" with 6 songs from the same year but with almost completely differnt sound, somehow more hardcore-ish if you know what I mean.. tape was apparently self released by the band in US and also on the above mentioned label in Europe.. this one is also available on youtube.. 

it's interesting that only one song from those two tapes finds it's place on the debut album and this was awesome "Retribution"..

one year later material from both cassettes ends up on one named simply "Two Tapes" which was released on Malaysian label Sickhead..

supposedly there was one more tape released in 2017 called "When God Closes A Door..." but I can't find any info about this one, if anyone knows more or has link where it can be heard that would be great..

DEADSKY - Reapers Call - LP is out!!

okay, this one is not out just now, to be more precise it was released 2 months ago, but as I'm still catching up with all the great releases that come out during this summer, this is still pretty fresh to me.. 

I've noticed the name Deadsky some two or so years ago while exploring bands which will play on this year's Skullfest when they still didn't had any release or nothing else published online so my curiosity tickles me for quite some time before I heard their first demo, or wait, actually I hear them first time from some live video on yt if I remember it well.. anyhow, from the beginning I had this feeling that they are interesting band and I was right, I mean, you can't go wrong with a band that has members from Appalachian Terror Unit, right!?.. after their demo recorded in the basement and published by the end of 2023 they are now here with a proper debut album "Reapers Call" which is released and available from legendary Profane Existence.. 9 songs of which even 6 already appeared on above mention demo but here are in new shape, although again recorded in their home studio, but nicely remastered and the whole thing now sounds stronger and even more convincing.. in short, deadly and crushing crust punk strongly influenced by classic UK anarcho-punk and crust sound, rounded with absolutely mighty, snotty vocals which on the first strongly reminds me of the one from Anaeroba, old Slovenian crust punk band.. song "Answer The Reapers Call" is instant hit, its lyrics and contagious rhythm will stay in your head for days after listening and will become crust punk hymn one day.. dark and mysterious cover art is in recognizable style and if you've seen any Subversive Rite cover it is easy to guess who made it..

it's funny how the time when some record is made is important, because if this was recorded in '90s it would eventually drown in the sea of similar classic Profane releases and in todays era full of post-something trends this record is surprisingly fresh and original..

DEADSKY have a heavy, mean and dark apocalyptic sound, a harken back to when the city of Pittsburgh also felt heavy, mean, dark and apocalyptic -an age when the sky was filled with so much smoke that noon seemed like dusk and the rivers were toxic with industrial waste. PODRUM 18th anniversary event announcement and new artwork by Steve of War

so, one of the most active lately and definitely my favorite d.i.y. space at my closest surroundings will become an adult in May next year.. Podrum, small but legendary squatted venue situated in ex-harbor of so called "european capital of culture" the city of Rijeka is turning 18.. over all those years they hosted probably every touring d.i.y. punk band, artist or movement which ever crossed their paths with this our wasteland called Croatia.. and most important, through all these years they stayed true underground, dedicated to d.i.y. principles and ethics and act completely autonomous which is in today's world rarity and thing for respect and admiration.. 

already traditionally they are preparing anniversary event in May, this time there will be even a 3-day party with bunch of workshops, gigs, discussions, screen-printing, tattoos and more..

but that's not all.. like some sort of destiny, my favorite venue and my favorite crust punk artist collide, so a few weeks ago Steve of War made a killer artwork for them which is incredible and with hundreds of small details looks impressive.. part of it has already been used for this poster above and we will see if they will use it for something more in the future.. it definitely has potential for decorating all kind of merch or anything else..

anyhow, if you will be close to Rijeka in the end of April, you know what to do, reserve the dates, be there and support this hard working crew of radical basement punx, they had some interesting plans for the future so they would certainly be grateful for the support.. and if nothing else, on all of their events great fun is guaranteed, that's for sure..

just some stuff from Phobia Records distro..

two new gems in my humble collection landed from Phobia R. distro few days ago.. one is real d-beat classic by one of the pioneers of Discharge worshiping sound if not the first one ever, short lived band (or more like side project by MOB47 members) from Sweden nammed Discard - probably the best dis-name in particular noise universe still untill today after milion other derivatives.. "Death From Above" was their EP originally released back in 1990, later re-released 2 times, first in Germany in 2001 and later in 2015 on Czech label Insane Society Records and this is from where copy of mine comes from.. it has a really beautiful covers and here I don't mean on picture which is horrible but the way it's made (hand screen-printed) and folded..

and the other is most likely the future classic, new and probably the last album by awesome NYC's raw and crusty hardcore punks Subversive Rite which was released just few months ago on US label Acute Noise Manufacture.. this one comes with lyrics on inlay and giant poster on thinn, newspaper-like kind of paper.. and I must mention, the sound on this one is monstrous, incredibly mighty and good, I got chills every time I play it, so despite it was little pricy it was worth it!..

SKORUP/A - Last? - new LP is out now + promo tour

new album by Polish best kept crust secret is out on NIC Records and D.I.Y. Kolo Records as LP, available on limited white vinyl and regular black version.. and great news for everyone who aren't vinyl lovers or can't afford them, this release is also available on CD and tape from the same labels..

I don't now why but I have this feeling that this band is flying low under the most of crust radars, especially outside of their closest surroundings (Poland and Czech R.) but mine super highly calibrated spotted them shortly after they first time appeared somewhere around 2020 with their first galloping and energetic demo album and I'm following their work since then.. they are also pretty active with playing live and they already have quite amount of gigs under their belts, including appearances on festivals like O.E.F. for example..

on the new album named "Last?" they offer 10 new songs in even faster and more furious style than on previous releases and with probably tightest production so far.. most of the time ultra fast d-beat hammering with brutal dual vocals screaming on their native language, even on a few slower parts or during the refrains they are spicing things up with some kind of gang vocals, riffs are simple but contagious and all is wrapped with perfectly loud and strong bass sound.. in short they didn't reinvent the wheel with this record but they have this classic 90s east european crusty sound of which I'm a big fan, so if you know what I'm talking about I just can't recommend this enough.. cover art is also beautiful and I like the fact that on every release so far they had some forest related theme drawn on their covers..

and for the end, below is the poster with dates and places where they will promote new album with live shows in next few months, all over Poland and in few cities in Czech R. so if you are there support them, I heard some rumors that they are even better and more energetic live than on their records..

hell yeah, first single "Uzmi Slobode" from upcoming new album by melodic punks (but with their dark souls buried deep down in metal and crust) from Požega is online and available on bandcamp and on youtube as video clip.. again very catchy song on the first, with strong and moving lyrics, just as we are used to from them.. can't wait to hear full album and let's just hope we won't wait for vinyl release another 10 years, haha..

last few months those melodic metal punks were working on a new album.. as it seems recordings are done or close to an end, 1st single is ready and will be premiered on their youtube channel in form of a new video clip this Tuesday (16.09. at 18:00 PM).. I heard some tiny fragments of few new songs while they were posting the news from recording sessions on socials and I can tell you, all sound interesting and very promising, even there will be included cover of one old song from ex-yu rock band Indexi and this will probably be blast, if you were on their latest gigs (on SAWA fest for example) you have already had opportunity to hear it live.. the whole album should be out in next few months in digital form but there is some vinyl in plan as well (knowing them, it could be released by the end of this year or easily after some 10, like it was the case with previous album)..

U.B.T. - first record on vinyl

as it seems crew from U.B.T. will get well deserved first vinyl release on French label Kill Ugly Pop.. I don't have any additional info about this one, I don't know with which material and if it will be in EP or LP format.. when I found out, you will be noticed..

24/24 / STRAGE DI STATO - split 7" will be out soon!!

also my favorite Hungarian punks 24/24 will also appear on vinyl for the first time.. after two excellent demo tapes they will release split 7" with raw punk band from Brno called Strage Di Stato who cherish fast and uncompromising, old school style of punk, it means very similar as fellow Hungarians so it seems that this will be one little hell of a split.. 24/24 will be represented with a material from "A Terv Része" latest recordings from them published at the end of last year in digital form.. the whole thing should be out this autumn..

new arrivals on Phobia Records

the other day while writing few words about Subversive Rite's new album I mentioned that I hope few copies will make it to Europe one day, totally without any high expectations, to be honest and just few days later, they appeared on always reliable Phobia Records from Czech R.. Mirek updates distro on almost a daily basis, and in this last week he get bunch of records from few US labels such as early mentioned Subversive Rite (only one copy still available, hurry, hurry up!), together with latest album by the same amazing Lifeless Dark, then new albums by legendary Japanese crust acts like Contrast Attitude or Frigora and some re-issues of top albums from Skitsystem and Dystopia and many, many more interesting stuff..

and last but not least, and to me maybe the most excited news, Nuclear Altar are in well known studio Depth on recording session.. can't fckn wait, although I'm little scared of recognizable Filip's studio production, which is great by the way, but I prefer that my favorite dis bands sound raw, dark and primitive.. anyhow, despite my wishes, they definitely deserve at least one proper studio record so I'm really looking forward to this one!..
